Adventures with James

Today is my last day here in Lacombe with the boys. The last two days while the four older ones have been at school James and I have gone out exploring and, as James puts it, having an adventure.  We won't be doing that today though because it's been raining all morning and James came down with a stomach virus last night that laid him low for quite awhile - he still has a slight fever today, although he denies it.  At least he isn't throwing up anymore.

Lacombe is a lovely little town with French/Catholic origins, named after an early settler, Father Lacombe.  The downtown area has retained it's original architecture and has been kept up very nicely.   James and I stopped yesterday to take a picture of one of their more famous buildings, the flatiron building.

Mostly though we explored the natural aspects of the town.  Here are some of the things we found in our adventures.

The lake behind the Junior High School.  In the winter this lake is cleared and maintained as a public skating rink.

A stand of cattails, in varying stages of bursting.

The ruins of an old tree house in the woods

Another lake with beautiful reflections of trees and buildings

And a peaceful duck pond with one lonely duck on it

After the boys got home from school and until they went to bed, my laptop and iPad got a real workout. They took turns checking them both out and trying out the games  and programs I have on them.  At one point I thought my MacBook had crashed but when Jonah came home it took him about 3 minutes to 'fix' it for me.  It's so nice to have smart grandsons.

Jonah (15) fixing my laptop

James (3), Nate (10) and Micah (6) playing on the laptop.

Sam (13) with Eadie on his shoulder using the iPad.

These boys have been a joy to be around.  They're so smart and funny.  They've been spoken to like adults since they were babies so they're not at all hesitant to sit and converse with adults (me!).  We had a good time.  I'm glad they just live an hour and a half down the highway from us so we can see them quite often.

hOW Wonderful to spend time with all your grandsons like that. It's wonderful how the teenagers can help us out, isn't it?! Poor little James. Do hope that he will be better soon :(

Lovely photos. I have photographed that Lacombe building too. It reminds me of the flat iron building in New York.

How lucky you are to have a grandson fix your computer. All of the boys look so handsome and sweet. I hope the little one feels better soon. I loved your photos but was particularly intrigued by the Flatiron Building. Very interesting architecture. Enjoy the rest of your visit. Be safe driving home.

What did you feed James? Just kidding! Hope you don't get it!
Looks like you are having fun. Great tour of the Lacombe sites . Visit that great ice cream place? Too bad you had rain today. We didn't get it yet.

It is amazing how interested boys can get with electronic gizmos! You have a lovely bunch there Pat and I know it will be hard to say goodbye. I was wondering if that dilapidated tree house was perhaps a hunting stand at one time? Beautiful place to visit/ live!
Hugs~

My husband is the oldest of five boys. I hear him tell tales of near death experiences among the five when they would get into scraps. I look at your sweet five and cannot imagine that they would tangle with each other. Do they get along? That James has a heart-warming smile. They are each one very handsome. I know you are so proud.

Good morning, Pat. I'll be back to spend more time at your lovely blog, but I wanted to answer your question about the book trilogy. Jonathan Maberry is the author and it's the Pine Deep Trilogy. The first book is Ghost Road Blues, then Dead Man's Song and finally Bad Moon Rising. I was hooked with the first book. I hope you enjoy them as well. As I say, I'll be back soon.

That building is so gorgeous. I'm so glad the old ones are still around:)

My young miss brought a cat tail home from a walk in our last city and as usual it ended up on her floor. Right near her heat vent. Well, the force of the air blew it all apart and we had those seeds EVERYWHERE for months and months. It was kinda funny! I was amazed by how many there were.

I'm glad you've enjoyed your visit and your grandkids so much!
