Peace

Driving around town on a hot summer afternoon I spotted these two doves resting peacefully on their nest in the arms of a giant saguaro.

I wonder if there were any eggs in the nest - or if those are a couple of this year's hatchlings.

I'm sure glad we don't come into this world in the arms of a giant, prickly cactus!

I've never seen a nest like that. I guess there's some kind of wren that burrows into the saguaro and builds nests inside. Is it hot enough for you? hahaha

My guess is they are this year's hatchlings! Wonderfully spotted!

What a wonderful picture. You were blessed to be able to capture them for us. Many might have gone by and never even noticed them.

That is a great photo! and such a prickly home!
What's happening to the nest in your garden?

What a great photo. How in the world did you spot them?

I never leave the house down here without my camera and am always on the lookout for interesting pictures.

Yes Jo, it is hot enough for me, and then some!

Pat, I took note of your wish to hear the tune for If Ever I Cease To Love and added a youtube video of it on the posting. Hope you enjoy...although it is a slower rendition of it than what we would be dancing to!
What a huge HUGE cactus! When I was young I went to Colorado with my grandmother and while running around a mountainside fell onto a prickly pear. We spent hours with a tweezer! Glad those doves have a nest to cushion them!

Looks cozy huh? How long are you in town for?

Holly said...

No, that's not right, never end the sentence with a preposition, how long are you in town?

Holly said...

I don't think I spelled preposition correctly.

I had to really look to spot that bird, but then I saw her. What an amazing nest, aren't they clever?

I feel for the bird that started that nest!!
While in WY I take many quad rides. The other day my ride came to a screeching halt when I ran over a prickly pear and a piece of it broke off and stuck deeply into my ankle.
OUCH. Of course it happened a long ways from the cabin where there is a pliers!! I mananged to get it out without getting it stuck in my hand!!
Next time I am out there I will go on another cactus hunt. Then I will have Daryl help me dig it up and plant it by the cabin!! He will be overjoyed...once again! Well he is happy to have them out of the bales!! :)
Clearing the land of cactus AND starting my own cactus garden!! :)
