Scary!!

Do you want to see something really scary?

Really, really scary?

Something that almost brought me to tears?

Something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy?

It even scared my big, brave husband!

I hope you haven't been too traumatized!  It's a barbeque in 80 pieces, including 685 screws, pins, washers and bolts.  And the instruction booklet.  Can't forget the instruction booklet with it's hard-to-follow instructions and even harder to understand diagrams...a nightmare of gigantic proportions.

If there's one thing Lloyd has a mental block about it's reading instructions.  He'll try putting things together on his own first and only refer to instructions as a last resort.  So it fell to me to interpret the instruction book and navigate our way through the construction of a small barbeque.  We only had to take it apart 3 or 4 times before it was completed - 5 hours and one mental health break later!  What a way to kill a perfectly lovely summer afternoon.

The good news is, Lloyd and I are still together and even still like each other.  And we now have a barbeque so Lloyd can do some summer cooking.  So I guess it wasn't a total waste of time.

Hopefully it won't blow up in our faces the first time we try to use it.

Pat

Hi There successful BBQ builders! I laughed out loud at the fact you still like each other after your task...my husband and I are going to put together a towel cabinet for temporary housing of items from our master bath while it's under renovation. Eek~(He's not big on reading directions either)!

Hope you have some good grilling going on...
Hugs and I like your new background!

You are a tease! I had no idea what we were going to be shown! I am astounded that you have to buy implements in pieces and put them together yourselves. Lawnmowers, barbecue grillers etc. Thankfully in SA ours are sold fully assembled. You have a delightful sense of humour and this made for such an amusing read :)

Hi there Pat. Your post did make me smile this morning! I wondered what we were going to be shown!! Gosh, Lloyd did well putting that barbecue together. It looks the biz, and I'm sure you will have some super barbecues on it. (Oh, if only we had more barbecue weather over here!!!). It seems that everything we buy these days, comes in pieces.

This was hysterical. Not for you but for me. Someone gave us one when we were first married and Rich was NOT mechanically inclined. He was a chef. We had to call my Dad to come rescue him. This just brought all that back. And Rich yelling, from now on anything we buy we pay to have it assembled first!!!!

Rick and I have tried (unsuccessfully to put together a bigger model of that.) Nearly killed each other. Why is it those things (bbq, not men) are so obnoxious? Glad to see you made it. Let me know when the gas is hooked up and no one was blown away.

Yes, the absolute scariest thing I have ever seen! Bless you for even attempting to put it together and bless you even more for trying it out. Hope you did not blow up.

Hi Pat......My sweet soul mate also is the last person to read directions....or to ask for directions when we travel. I think it is a MALE thing! LOL

Thanks for all your visits. You winter in AZ I am presuming....You mentioned Surprise....about 45 minutes from us. Look forward to getting to know you better.

I enjoyed this! What is it about men that they try to do it first and only look at the instructions when it doesn't work?!

My husband and I don't work well on projects together. It's frustrating to me that he won't follow the directions and he thinks I'm being persnickety. I now just have him call a friend to help him. Works for us. Enjoy the new bbq.

That is so funny - my husband won't read either. Looks like he did a great job and hope it works good too.

Perfect place to BBQ in your covered patio, especially with this summer of constant rain! That table full of parts looked very daunting!

The first photo made me think "Aha! she's looking for her lost credit card and these are all her black purses lying open all over her desk!"

Hubby would run screaming from the room or have a go and end up throwing all the pieces in a bin! Well done on getting it up - Lloyd!
