Along The Road

We did more on our road trip than break down, get rescued, and eat great food...although all that made for an exciting and tasty trip.  Here's some shots from along the way.

Our trip took us due south from Alberta, into the US through Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada and finally to Arizona.  We made a few stops along the way.

You've already been introduced to Basin, MT, site of the infamous Expedition death.

The nicest old building on Main St.

After a timely rescue by Lloyd, we continued on our southward trek, rushing through Idaho without incident...or photo op...and into Utah, where we stopped at the new 5 billion dollar mall in downtown Salt Lake City.  It really is quite an amazing place, more like a town square than a mall, incorporating renovated old buildings, outdoor spaces as well as spacious indoor areas, fountains, stores, etc.

The center of the mall.  The buildings all around are part of the mall as well.

From Salt Lake, we continued on to Filmore, UT, where we spent the night in a lovely motel.  Then early next morning we drove south stopping to explore the small Kolob Canyon before going onward through St. George, and the Virgin River Gulch into a corner of Arizona then slightly west into Nevada.

And you have to know that in Nevada we made our next stop in Las Vegas.  But that's a story for the next blog entry.

to be continued...

I don't know about that Mall but am fascinated. "Retractable roof"? Really? Fish in a stream flowing through the mall? So neat. And just think, the day will come when it will be obsolete.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful adventure. Can't wait for Las Vegas.

That looks more like a small city and not a mall! The red road and rocks were cool. I thought I was seeing things at first.

So glad that your trip was much better after your break down. It looks like you all are having a wonderful time. I've never been to Vegas so I'll be looking forward to seeing the sights there too. Hope your Tuesday is a terrific one!

I've got a whole post on Filmore coming up one of these days. There's some interesting things to see there.

Oh - one more thing. If you're driving back and see Parowan exit, stop there and turn at the sign that says 'Petroglyphs'. About eleven miles west of the town are a whole bunch of rocks with all these old petroglyphs drawn on them. It's called Parowan Gap and the didn't spend a whole lot of money making signs telling you where it is so you have to watch carefully.

Glad their was life after the Expedition died. I love creeks that meander anywhere. Never saw one in a mall do that. INTERESTING. Kolob Canyon looks awesome. can't wait to see the next batch of pics.
